Springtime delights at Buckler’s Hard

Spring is the perfect time to explore Buckler’s Hard. With its fascinating shipbuilding past and peaceful setting, Buckler’s Hard is a great spot for a day out. Plus, from 5th April, you can hop on a relaxing river cruise running daily between 11am and 4:30pm, offering stunning views and a chance to spot local wildlife.

Photography lovers will enjoy Beaulieu River: In Focus, a free exhibition running from until November in the Shipyard Office. The exhibition showcases more than 20 stunning images from 10 years of the Beaulieu River photo competition – ranging from tranquil sunsets to captivating wildlife, including pictures of the river’s playful resident seals. If you’re feeling creative, the 2025 Beaulieu River Photo Competition is now open.
If you’d rather be outdoors, the scenic two-mile footpath between Buckler’s Hard and Beaulieu is perfect for a springtime stroll. As you walk, you’ll see the oak trees that might once have been used for ship construction in their native habitat. Plus, wildflowers beginning to bloom, including daffodils adding bright pops of colour to the village. Then, take a detour into the public bird hide at Keeping Marsh for a chance to see some of our indigenous wildlife, including Shellduck, Canada Geese, Oystercatchers and more.
Keen to learn more about the history of the village? The Buckler’s Hard Museum offers visitors insights into the village’s famous shipbuilding history and the stories of its residents through an exhibition on village life, the role of the area in WW2 and the river today. Open daily 10 – 4pm with admission fee to support the preservation of the village.
When you’re ready for a break, the Captain’s Table offers tasty treats to eat in or takeaway. Alternatively, at the end of the Buckler’s Hard high street, you’ll find The Master Builder’s House Hotel, offering fresh, seasonal food, and good quality wines and ales.
Set sail on a River Cruise – returning on 5th April. Step aboard for a peaceful 30 minute boat ride along the Beaulieu River. Keep an eye out for any cheeky seals! The river cruise is a great optional extra to enjoy during your visit to Buckler’s Hard.
The village is free to enter, and is accessible by foot, car, or bike. A parking charge applies for those arriving by vehicle, which helps maintain the heritage site. A small admission charge applies if you wish to explore Buckler’s Hard Museum.
