19 June 2014 – Construction of the foundations is underway as we ready the ground for the hand raising in August.
Excitement is building again as the local contractors have started the foundations for the new replica shipwrights school workshop. But no 18th century methods here, we are using modern methods to clear the ground, lay the concrete and drainage so that the site is ready to start with Henry Russell and his team on the 7th July.
Courses are nearly full but we do still have a few places left. We also are offering free places for carpenters apprentices in the week 21st – 25th July so get in touch if you are interested in coming along.
Some of the timber we hand converted back in the spring is now being sawn locally into rafters and brought back to site for the big hand ‘raising’ in the first weekend of August. Henry is going to be joined by his twin brother John for the courses and hopefully many keen volunteers for the raising.
