The Art of Buckler's Hard - 16 March - 3 November 2024

March 16, 2024

Explore The Art of Buckler’s Hard, a new exhibition showcasing art from the recent Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year semi-final, as well as paintings from the Montagu family collection.

This free exhibition is located in the Shipyard Office, opposite the Master Builder’s House and opens from 16 March to 3 November 2024.

Seven semi-finalists competed for the Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year title at Buckler’s Hard in July 2023.  They were tasked with capturing the natural charm of Buckler’s Hard, as well as its rich maritime history.

See their original pieces on display as they take centre stage in this new exhibition. Some of them are even for sale!

See a selection of artwork from the Montagu Family collection.

Highlights include official Admiralty artist Richard Eurich’s oil painting of a firework display to welcome Sir Francis Chichester’s return in Gipsy Moth IV, as well as watercolour paintings of the High Street by British artists Walter Tyndale and Stanley Orchard.

Marine artist David Bell’s watercolour of HMS Euryalas and HMS Swiftsure on Buckler’s Hard launchways also make an appearance within the exhibition.

Amateur artists and professionals were invited to enter our very own FREE art competition.

Entrants could submit up to two paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and textiles under the themes of ‘Sailing by’, ‘Where time flows differently’ and ‘Step back in history’ for a chance to win prizes and awards.

The finalists artwork will be displayed in the exhibition and visitors will be asked to vote for their favourites.

Entries are now closed. Stay tuned to find out the winners of the competition.
