Buckler’s Hard supports local food bank with ‘sweet’ donation

When the New Forest entered Tier 3 on Boxing Day, the historic village of Buckler’s Hard had to close its doors and the gift shop team found themselves with a stock of unsold biscuits and fudge.

Rather than allowing the tasty treats to go out of date, the team got in touch with New Forest Basics Bank, a Lymington-based charity that provides food parcels to those in need.

The Chair of New Forest Basics Bank, Oli Stanley, was pleased to accept the donation. He said: “We were thrilled to receive the generous donation from Buckler’s Hard. We have used the produce in both our day to day parcels going out to families in need, plus included items in the weekly outreach Larders in New Milton and Pennington. Our clients have really enjoyed receiving these premium items, particularly those with families whose children who would normally have been at school wanted snacks during the day! Thank you for thinking of us.”

Buckler’s Hard and its Maritime Museum have remained closed throughout the lockdown, but the team are now preparing to welcome the public back. In accordance with the Government’s roadmap, the outdoor spaces will reopen to local visitors from Monday 29th March. A takeaway food and drink outlet will be available on the banks of the Beaulieu River, allowing visitors a chance to relax and recharge in the peaceful surroundings.
