Seasonal strolls and warming winter drinks at Buckler’s Hard this festive season

Pull on your walking boots and head down to Buckler’s Hard this winter, for an invigorating stroll, a fascinating snapshot of 18th century life, and a warming hot drink at one of the south coast’s most delightful and picturesque spots. What better way could there be to spend a crisp winter’s day?

See where ships for Nelson’s navy were built, on the banks of the stunning Beaulieu River, as you stretch your legs, then admire the view from the top of the village high street. With the Solent Way footpath running through the village, why not enjoy an all-season stroll to nearby Beaulieu, just a gentle 2¼ mile walk or cycle from Buckler’s Hard. Step inside the preserved Shipwright’s Cottage to get a flavour of what life was like during the village’s shipbuilding heyday, then take a closer look at new exhibition HMS Agamemnon – Navigating the Legend, to discover the fascinating story of Nelson’s favourite ship, built at Buckler’s Hard and lost at the bottom of the ocean for over 200 years. These free-to-enter features are sure to add another dimension to your visit.
Feeling peckish? Then shrug off the chilly breeze and step into at the Captain’s Table, open daily from 9am, to enjoy some warming winter fayre. With hot drinks and tasty snacks to enjoy, a range of Christmas food and drink is on offer for the festive period, from tempting fruit cake and mince pies, to festive sandwiches and paninis. While the Buckler’s Hard Museum and visitor centre will all temporarily close for the winter, from Monday 28th November until Sunday 5th February, the Captain’s Table, visitor car park, Shipwright’s Cottage and HMS Agamemnon exhibition will all remain open, while the Master Builder’s Hotel will also be open for business.
For those arriving by vehicle, a parking charge applies, which helps to maintain this heritage site. Plus, if you’re just popping in for a coffee, parking is free for up to 15 minutes, with a small parking charge applying thereafter. The flexible new parking system allows you to relax in the knowledge that you only pay for the time you’re here, whilst helping us maintain this fascinating heritage site. Visitors can pay before leaving by entering their number plate at the onsite pay points, or via the Glide parking app on their smartphone. Cash and card payments are both accepted.
