Walks, wildlife and fresh air
Make the most of sunny days with a stroll along Buckler’s Hard’s beautiful riverside walking routes, where sweeping views of the Beaulieu River unfold at every turn. The two gentle loops are perfect for all ages, with plenty to spot along the way – including a peaceful bird hide at Keeping Marsh, ideal for quiet wildlife watching. Dogs are welcome on leads, so you can bring the whole family along for the adventure.
For a more relaxed pace, simply amble down the historic high street and watch boats drift by on the river.
New exhibition opening
This May, Buckler’s Hard marks the 81st anniversary of VE Day with the launch of a brand-new exhibition, Beaulieu River at War.
Opening on 22 May and running until the end of October, the exhibition reveals the powerful wartime story of the river and its role during the Second World War. Curated by local historian Marc Heighway alongside Mary Montagu-Scott for the Buckler’s Hard Shipyard Trust, it’s a must-see for history lovers – and free to visit
Set sail on a River Cruise
Feel the breeze in your hair and explore an unspoilt New Forest haven while the River Cruise is running for the spring and summer season. All the family will love looking for wildlife and hearing fascinating tales about Buckler’s Hard and the Beaulieu River. River cruises run daily, sailing from the jetty at the bottom of the High Street, from 11am – 4.30pm.
Step into history
See a smugglers’ cellar under the altar at charming St Mary’s Chapel, then step inside an original Shipwright’s Cottage to discover how the shipbuilders lived. There’s free access for all visitors to the village where time flows differently.
Relax and refuel by the river
Head over to Henry’s Pub at the Master Builder’s House, where you’ll find a warm welcome and hearty dishes, or stop by The Captain’s Table for delicious lunches, indulgent afternoon teas and refreshing ice creams. With free entry to the village, it’s the perfect spot to meet family and friends and relax by the river.
